Circular Economy

·     Shopfitting goes circular: refurbishment and reuse replace new production

·     KIND4stores customers benefit from the circular economy: more cost-effective, more sustainable, more eco-friendly

Gummersbach, 16 January 2026

Circular store design and sustainability in shopfitting are becoming a common theme at EuroShop 2026. KIND4stores has many years of expertise in the field of the circular economy. In manufacturing its HK25 display unit system, the shopfitting specialist relies successfully on recycling when its customers are ready to modernise, renovate or expand their stores. Upcycling as an alternative is normally a more cost-effective and sustainable solution than replacing everything with new equipment. KIND4stores’s overriding aim is to design shopfitting products and materials that remain in circular flow from the start and do not generate any waste.

EU regulations call for new strategies

The circular economy has long become more than just a niche trend. At the latest in 2026, going circular will become a strategic necessity, not least because of stricter EU regulations, especially in the form of the mandatory digital product passport (DPP), which requires transparency around origin, material composition and repairability. In parallel, the risk of rising CO 2 prices – and therefore higher energy costs – is driving the shopfitting sector towards circular concepts.

Circular economy at KIND4stores: cost-effective and sustainable

Depending on the material and quantity, KIND4stores customers can save up to 7% on their costs. At the same time, this process allows KIND4stores itself to reduce the CO 2 emissions in its manufacturing, which in turn has a positive impact on its energy costs.

On average, over 90% of the shopfitting elements can be refurbished and reclaimed for a further lifecycle. Steel is 100% recycled. KIND4stores shifts over a million parts per year in its upcycling process.

Sustainability built in

The circular economy is a holistic system and takes into account the entire lifecycle of a shop interior. Which is why KIND4stores doesn’t just focus on the recycling: its aim is to select materials and design components such that they can remain in circular flow from the outset and create as little waste as possible. This means that already in the planning phase, the goal is always to be able to return used products to the circle – be it through repair, reuse of existing elements or complete material recycling.

Key principles for circular shopfitting in 2026

·     Modularity and flexibility: increased use of standardised, modular system and shelving components forms the basis for use of circular processes.

·     Design for Disassembly (DfD): shopfitting systems are designed such that they can be disassembled homogeneously at the end of their use. Purely mechanical connections like screws or plug-in systems are favoured to facilitate recycling or reuse.

·     Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C): this approach aims to keep materials in closed biological or technical loops, i.e. ideally dismantle them fully biologically or completely reuse the recyclable materials. This way, fixtures and fittings act as material depots for the future.
