KIND4stores will debut a virtual advice assistant to advise on pet food and health at EuroShop 2026. Fully integrated in the shopfitting system, the AI-based solution interacts with customers in natural language, expertly guiding them to the appropriate product for their pet.

Spending up as pet owners on the rise

The number of pets in German households has now reached 33.9 million, among them 15.9 million cats and 10.5 million dogs. Extrapolated to Europe, these figures increase tenfold.

Pets have long become another member of the family, and if you love your pet, you don’t want to skimp on them: with sales of 5.47 billion euros in 2025, the German pet food industry long ago ceased to be a niche market. Keeping animals appropriately to their species, feeding them the right food, recognising when they are sick and preventing illness are all challenges faced by pet owners today. Animal welfare is important to them and vet fees have skyrocketed.

So the willingness to spend is there. At the same time, bricks-and-mortar businesses are under increasing pressure from online sales channels. They must keep offering their customers added value to make it worth their while visiting the store. Expert advice is a key aspect of this, but it is not easy to guarantee consistently due to such factors as staff shortages, long opening hours and fluctuating footfall.

Smart Pet Nutrition brings animal lovers back to the tills

This is precisely where Smart Pet Nutrition comes in: the AI-driven solution from KIND4stores takes over exactly this expert advice, which would otherwise be very costly to provide in the retail sector. The products covered include pet food, health supplements and over-the-counter pet medication.

A display with integrated microphone invites customers to describe the needs or problems of their pet. The AI, which has been “fed” with specialist information, asks specific questions until it can either suggest a suitable product or – if necessary – advises a visit to the vet.

The suggested product is displayed with picture and description, to show the customer exactly what they are getting. As the recommended item will ideally be available on a nearby shelf, the chat leads seamlessly to the purchase process at the point of sale.

Conventional digital advice systems normally work with checkbox-based software, but given the depth of topic, this method soon reaches its limits and the chat goes no further.
