- Concept test for self-checkout at the Tchibo branch in St. Gallen train station.
- In addition to a large selection of non-food and food items, freshly prepared coffee drinks can also be paid for via SCOs
- Purchasing possible via SCOs as well as via Snabble app
- Complete integration of the Snabble self-checkout cloud
Snabble and Tchibo will test self-checkout for the first time in a store in Switzerland. With the self-scan service, which consists of a combined setup of the Snabble app (mobile self-scanning & in-app payment) and self-checkout terminals, customers can now look forward to a new shopping experience. The project will be launched in February at the Tchibo store in St. Gallen Bahnhof. In stationary retail, self-checkout terminals have already established themselves as an alternative to manned checkouts. What is special about this concept is that, thanks to digital sales technology, customers can enjoy their shopping self-determined and at their own pace. Customers who are in a hurry can therefore use modern payment methods as required in the station branch. Tchibo employees in the test store can focus more on advising customers
and providing services such as ordering with in-store pickup. "Digitization and convenience are defining trends in many industries, including retail, which
has become even more prominent in the last three years or so. Together with Snabble, it was possible to convert one of our stores to a modern self-checkout concept for a test. In the process, Snabble succeeded in conceptually adapting to our non-traditional business model and developing appropriate customer-oriented solutions." Marcel R. Saluz, Managing
Director Tchibo (Schweiz) AG
This is how shopping at the Tchibo self-checkout store works:
- Customers use the self-checkout terminals (SCO) or the Snabble app to scan the barcodes of all the products they want to buy. The number of individual products can be easily adjusted. Of course, products can also be removed from the shopping cart again.
- Once all products are in the shopping cart, customers can pay at a designated terminal.
- To do this, customers tap the pay button to start the payment process. A QR code is then displayed in the app.
- This QR code is scanned at a terminal and customers can then pay for their purchase directly at the terminal.
- An alternative is to pay directly in the Snabble app.
The station branch is open to all visitors to the station who wish to store during regular opening hours. The store is also open on Sundays. In addition to a large selection of coffees and coffee machines, customers will find weekly changing product worlds around fashion, children's clothing, activewear as well as household goods. The installed Essence Kiosk by Pan Oston and the fully integrated self-checkout cloud round off the concept. Payment is made without waiting at a conventional checkout. The software for this is supplied by the Bonn-based IT company Snabble, which has already equipped stores of tegut...teo, ALDI Suisse and Gooods with the technology.
